Our playgrounds are open again!

Barstow Heights Community Services District
is excited to announce that...

Our playgrounds at both parks
are open to the public again!!
Just in time for Easter weekend and
Spring Break! (for B.U.S.D. schools).

We'd like to THANK YOU for your patience,
as the playground areas at both of our parks
were under construction and had been closed
for a few weeks more than we had anticipated.

We are thrilled about the addition of three beautiful
NEW shade structures! (2 at Venner park, and 1 at Barstow
Heights Park). As the hot days of summer approach, we are
happy to know that kids in our community will be able to
enjoy much cooler playground areas, even during the
hottest parts of the day.

Please enjoy and have a Happy (and Safe!) Easter!!

Park Reminders!

As Spring approaches and the weather begins to warm up, we start to see a big increase in the number of people who visit our Parks each day. We LOVE to see our Parks being enjoyed by so many children and adults! Here are some photos we took recently to show you what makes us smile...

Barstow Heights Park on Saturday 2/21/15 at 1pm.
(corner of H street and Rimrock road)
Someone is having a party complete with bounce houses and a piƱata!
You can also see that the grass is starting to grow back alongside
our newly constructed sidewalk ramp. Our NEW shaded picnic areas
are now much easier to get to with your wheelchairs, strollers, and rolling ice-chests!

(corner of K street and Panamint road)
Another party with a bounce house and kids playing soccer in the grass.
Three separate shaded picnic areas at this location means lots of room for
multiple gatherings/events to take place at one time.
This park also features a large playground area for the children, fitness stations,
a basketball court, beach volleyball court, and horseshoe pits.

We thought it would be a good time to remind our guests about our Park Rules and Regulations as well as answer your most frequently asked question. Our office gets the most phone calls from park visitors inquiring about how to make reservations to use one of our Parks and whether or not we have water/electricity hook-ups available.

At this time, we do NOT take reservations for our Parks. They are always free and open to the public on a "first come, first serve" basis. We also do not have water/electricity hook-ups available. Those who rent/bring in bounce houses, laser-tag arenas, and other such forms of entertainment are responsible for bringing their own generators/air compressors if power is needed.

Finally, here our Park Rules and Regulations as
posted at both of our Park locations:
Please enjoy our lovely Parks!!

Barstow Heights Park is CLOSED Temporarily for Construction!

Construction began this morning (Tuesday 9/9/14), at Barstow Heights Park that is located on the corner of H Street and Rimrock Rd. We are very excited to finally announce this improvement project that the Board of Directors have been planning for more than a year now. The improvements being made will include the construction of TWO new shade canopies (20 feet wide by 40 feet in length), the addition of three new picnic tables, new trash cans, and new barbecues; as well as new cement foundations and sidewalks/ramps that meet all of the ADA requirements. New benches/seating on each side the basketball court will also be added. Our park will soon feature more picnic areas that are covered/shaded and will be much more accessible and user-friendly to guests with wheelchairs, strollers, and rolling ice chests! The project is expected to take a few weeks to complete, so for now, THE PARK IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC with the exception of the Basketball Court. The Basketball Court will remain open as long as those who use it will respect the temporary orange fencing and stay out of the closed section of the park.  We are hopeful that we will be able to open the park again beginning Friday, September 19th, as long as the Construction is able to progress as scheduled. In the meantime, we recommend that residents and guests visit nearby Venner Park that is located on the corner of K Street and Panamint Rd.
THANK YOU for your patience while we are
Closed for Construction...
we can't wait to reveal all the NEW improvements
as soon as they are completed!
It's going to be beautiful!!

Flash Flood aftermath (conditions at Venner Park)

Sending thoughts, prayers, and well wishes to our many residents who have been affected by flash flooding. We also ask the public to please be especially careful and drive slowly on our muddy roads as they are still being cleared and worked on by Cal-trans and County Road crews. Here are some photos of the damage at
Venner park (corner of K street and Panamint) as seen early Monday morning (8/4/14). Our City of Barstow crews have taped off areas that the public should please stay away from until repairs can be made to make them more safe.
Thank you for your cooperation in avoiding any unsafe conditions/areas.

Packed Parks on Easter Weekend!

We were so glad to see our two Parks packed so full of people this past weekend! We are so pleased to see them utilized and so busy this time of year when the weather is so lovely. Here are a few photos we took to try to show you the crowds present at both Parks on Sunday afternoon, March 31st. We hope you all had a Happy Easter and thank you for visiting and enjoying our beautiful Parks!

Snow again!!

FRIDAY, MARCH 8, 2013

It's not often that we get snow here in the High Desert. Miraculously, we've been blessed with snow two times in less than a month! Here are a few photos I was able to get at Venner Park this morning. By noon, most of the snow had melted, but it sure was beautiful while it lasted. Enjoy these pics!

Debbie's Retirement

On July 12th, 2012, Debbie Garvin worked her last day in the office as the General Manager/Secretary of the Barstow Heights Community Services District. Board President, Dick Jacobs, had planned a special "surprise" retirement luncheon for her that only the Board members, Debbie's husband Tim, daughter Katy, and myself knew about and attended. Even though Debbie warned us that she "hates" surprises, the Board really wanted the opportunity to recognize her and thank her for her 17 years of dedicated service to the district. As the new General Manager/Secretary that was hired to take her place, I can also tell you that it has been an honor to spend the past month working in the office with Debbie as she has been training me to do the job. I know that I have tough shoes to fill, but I am grateful to Debbie for making this transition so easy for me and for being a friend that I can admire so much and want to be like.

The Board of Directors presented Debbie with this beautifully
engraved desk organizer for her to enjoy using at home:

We know we will still get to see you occasionally,
but you sure will be missed here at the office!
Enjoy your retirement Debbie!!

Panamint Park renamed Venner Park

This information was published on the front page of
the Desert Dispatch on Wednesday, May 30th, 2012:

BARSTOW • Barstow Heights officials renamed Panamint Park in honor of local resident William Venner over the weekend.

Venner died in March 2011. He once worked part-time for the Barstow Heights Community Services District and also worked as a teacher and administrator at various Barstow schools.

Even when he was not employed by the agency, Venner was dedicated to helping clean up the park, which he lived across the street from, Board President Dick Jacobs said.

“He always tried to get the graffiti off the day after it happened,” Jacobs said.

The board had been thinking of ways to honor Venner since his death, Jacobs said, and someone proposed renaming the park.

The agency installed a plaque indicating the park’s new name.

The community services district maintains two parks in the Barstow Heights neighborhood through a contract with the city of Barstow.

On Monday, May 28th (memorial day) at 10am, the Barstow Heights CSD Board of Directors held a rededication ceremony at the park located at Panamint and K street in Barstow Heights. There was a barbecue celebration provided for the public afterwards.
