Board Meeting Invitation!

Attention residents of Barstow Heights!

The County Roads Supervisor, Bill Little, will be attending our next Board Meeting (Monday 2/26 at 6pm) to pass out flyers and share information about the upcoming

road work that is expected to begin May 5th and continue through the middle or end of June 2018. The County will be doing a full chip seal on EVERY County-owned road in the Heights, (even the East-West streets), with the exceptions being the most recently improved small stretches of roads on Rimrock Road, H Street, and L Street. It's been at least 10-12 years since this much road work (on such a large scale at once) has been done up here, and we are really looking forward to this improvement.

We invite the public to join us at the meeting for more information! Those who attend will have the opportunity to ask Bill Little any questions they might have in-person. We hope to see you all here at 6pm on Monday 2/26 in our Community Building, located behind the water tower on the corner of H Street and Rimrock Road.

  

Road Work Begins Monday 8/28!

Residents and those driving through the Heights,

you may already be aware that Road Work

is set to begin on Monday, August 28th!

We have been informed that the work will be performed on
the County sections of Rimrock Road, H Street, and L Street.

The road work is expected to continue on
through September 26th (and maybe longer).

PLEASE slow down and

be extra cautious while driving

to ensure the safety of others!

You can expect some slowing and delays wherever the
road crews are. Needless to say, it may also be a good idea
to leave earlier than you normally do if you have
somewhere important to be at a set time.

Annexation

To the residents of Barstow Heights who are concerned about being annexed by the City of Barstow, we invite you to join us at our next Board Meeting on Monday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm!! The Board of Directors will be discussing this topic further and would like to hear your questions, suggestions, and requests regarding this situation. Our building is located on the corner of H street and Rimrock road (just behind the water tower and next to the park). You can also e-mail us before the meeting (barstowheightscsd@hotmail.com) with your list of any concerns or questions you'd like the Board to address that evening.

Our prayers go out to all of those affected by this devastating tragedy. Thank you to our of public safety professionals for working to put an end to this and to our volunteers for your commitment in assisting those whose lives have been forever changed. I have personally been to the command post, various communities, and evacuation centers throughout the district.  Believe me when I say, these brave firefighters are are fighting a very aggressive fire which they have stated, they have never seen in their careers.

Barstow Heights Park is CLOSED Temporarily for Construction!

Construction began this morning (Tuesday 9/9/14), at Barstow Heights Park that is located on the corner of H Street and Rimrock Rd. We are very excited to finally announce this improvement project that the Board of Directors have been planning for more than a year now. The improvements being made will include the construction of TWO new shade canopies (20 feet wide by 40 feet in length), the addition of three new picnic tables, new trash cans, and new barbecues; as well as new cement foundations and sidewalks/ramps that meet all of the ADA requirements. New benches/seating on each side the basketball court will also be added. Our park will soon feature more picnic areas that are covered/shaded and will be much more accessible and user-friendly to guests with wheelchairs, strollers, and rolling ice chests! The project is expected to take a few weeks to complete, so for now, THE PARK IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC with the exception of the Basketball Court. The Basketball Court will remain open as long as those who use it will respect the temporary orange fencing and stay out of the closed section of the park.  We are hopeful that we will be able to open the park again beginning Friday, September 19th, as long as the Construction is able to progress as scheduled. In the meantime, we recommend that residents and guests visit nearby Venner Park that is located on the corner of K Street and Panamint Rd.

Have flood damage? Please contact us now!

Attention Barstow Heights Residents who have been affected by the recent flash flooding:  We are working with the San Bernardino County OES (Office of Emergency Services) to get a better estimation as to how much damage was done to homes/properties. If enough damage is reported, some residents MAY qualify for emergency aid/assistance, but in order to do so, we have to have "Damage Survey" report forms filled out and returned to us as quickly as possible. There is no guarantee that funding will be given and we haven't been given much time to gather this information from our residents, but we ask that all residents who have flood damage to report PLEASE contact us by e-mail (BarstowHeightscsd@hotmail.com) ASAP or text message your address to Jen Rubio at 760-220-0683 so we can be certain that you are not overlooked (as we're not sure exactly how many homes/businesses have been affected). General Manager, Jen Rubio, will be delivering the forms in person again TONIGHT (Thursday 8/14) to residences that we believe might have flood damage to report, and we don't want to miss anyone, so PLEASE contact us now to ensure that you do receive the proper forms to fill out. Flash Flood aftermath (conditions at Venner Park)

Sending thoughts, prayers, and well wishes to our many residents who have been affected by flash flooding. We also ask the public to please be especially careful and drive slowly on our muddy roads as they are still being cleared and worked on by Cal-trans and County Road crews. A quick warning to residents...

A Barstow Heights resident reported that neighbors should be on the look-out for a white male, nicely dressed, going door to door representing GE Alarm systems. He had an ID badge, but sounded fishy, so the resident's wife told him to leave. Then when they called GE alarm to ask about it they were told that they don't do door to door soliciting! It was reported to the Sheriff. You can never be too careful! For your own safety (and to prevent potential burglaries), it would be wise to not allow unsolicited salesmen/strangers into your homes, no matter how "nice" they might seem.

A Warning to Keep your Pets Safe!

A Barstow Heights resident has reported that she suspects that animals in her neighborhood (near Crestview and L street) are being poisoned.   So far, the only animals we believe have been affected have been stray cats and kittens.  A feral cat was taken to a local vet who did confirm that he suspected poisoning as well, but it was too late to save it.  While it is unknown whether the suspected poisoning was accidental or intentional and we don't want to cause unnecessary alarm, we would like to at least inform residents in the area of the potential danger and remind you to please continue to keep a close eye on all of your pets.  Please be careful not to allow them to wander away from the safety of your own home/property.  If you have seen anything suspicious you would like to report or have any further information or concerns to share with the public,
please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you!

The westbound entrance into the Barstow Heights community via Rimrock Road is where the road intersects with H Street. In the last two months, the Heights has seen an increase in burglaries, which has spurred Sheriff's officials to increase their presence in the area.

Special Alert - BEWARE of dangerous dogs!

Several Barstow Heights residents have been sharing this information on Facebook and we want to continue warning people about this until the problem is taken care of:

It has been reported that we have a pack of 3 dogs (2 pit bulls and a light brown mutt) loose in the Barstow Heights area. They have been a nuisance in our neighborhoods for nearly a month now. They have killed a pigmy goat and one jumped a fence to kill a pet rabbit. They have most recently attacked a miniature horse that suffered extensive wounds and needs hospitalization for a few days. Numerous residents have reported that they have seen these dogs jump 6-foot tall fences and get into their garbage cans. Animal Control has been setting up traps for them for several weeks with no success. Be on the lookout and if you see them please call Animal Control right away - they are fully aware of them as they have been notified multiple times, but just cannot seem to track them down.

It would be a very good idea to save this number to your cell phone now so you will be prepared if and when you spot them.

These dogs have been aggressive towards people, so please be smart and do not approach them. Keep your small pets inside and especially keep a close eye on your kids!
